Parks Landscape Construction Worker

EFFECTIVE DATE: March 2022 PARKS LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION WORKER Department: Parks & Recreation Job Classification: Seasonal Pay Grade PT5 PAY GRADES LINK GENERAL PURPOSE Working under the supervision of the Spanish Fork City Parks and Recreation Lead Worker the Landscape Construction Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks associated with landscape construction and performs other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Installation of sprinkler systems, installing sod, plants trees and shrubs.
prepares soil for planting and performs other similar tasks as assigned.
Operates hand and power equipment including shovel, rake, tractor, skid steer, trencher, mini excavator, rototiller; maintains tools and equipment used in landscape construction.
Performs simple and minor repairs to equipment and park structures.
Responds to assignments from the lead worker and supervisor.
Occasionally perform essential functions on holidays and weekends as assigned.
Must have a professional positive attitude with good communication skills.
Be productive while working alone and with others.
Employees are expected to deal effectively and courteously with the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience in landscape construction or similar experience including some exposure to horticulture, landscape maintenance or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills listed below: Knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, insects, and diseases.
Knowledge of the use of chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, etc.

Knowledge of the sprinkler installation procedures and techniques used in install irrigation systems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and general public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to safely operate various equipment and tools used in landscape construction.
Must have transportation to and from work and speak English.
Must have excellent design, organizational and planning skills, and strong people skills.
Must be a self-motivated, open minded problem solver that adapts readily to change.
This is a hands-on position.
Must have a valid drivers license.

Occasionally requires vision strain, rapid speed work, and extreme muscular exertion, along with finger, hand/arm, and foot/leg dexterity.
Mental applications include constant memory for details and attention to many items.
Occasionally requires the estimation of the size, quality, and quantity of objects, along with the speed of moving objects.
