Requirements: At least 3 years experience with fitting and welding of structural and miscellaneous steel
Major Duties
Review, read and comprehend Structural Steel detail prints, section vies, multiple prints, weld symbols, and bill of materials to determine best fitting sequences.
Mark and/or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
Check bevels, angles, or gap allowances, to ensure proper fit up.
Set up and properly operate fabricating equipment such as torches, line burners, mag drills, and grinders, to cut, drill, or otherwise fit and assemble steel components.
All work is completed to meet 626 quality standard work procedures and contract specifications.
Align and fit parts into position, manually or by using hoists, cranes, jacks, turntables, wedges, drift pins, pry bars and/or hammers, according to specifications.
Follow direction from supervisor, lead person, checker, and quality control personnel.
Read tapes and practice business math knowledge and understanding.
Follow all safety procedures, including wearing proper PPE for the work being performed, operate all machines and equipment safely and always maintain safe work habits.
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from any debris.
Understand and perform proper heat techniques and manipulation to straighten warped or bent parts and pieces, using jacks, rose bud torches and cutting torches.
Design, build and set up jigs and fixtures as needed.
Check final fit ups dimensional specifications of other fitter’s work.
Train and mentor other fitters.
Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and specifications, using jigs, cutting torches, and fixtures, and hand tools i.
