What You Will Do The Night Shift - Structural/Pipe Fabrication Supervisor will be responsible for the daily supervision of all aspects of the Fabrication (structural and pipe) and Laser production in accordance with required quality standards and in a cost-efficient manner.
Train and mentor Leads and employees to maximize their welding and fabrication skills and to advance career growth; monitor employee performance, track and report on department quality and schedules employees work to meet production schedule.
Essential Functions - Other duties may be assigned.
Fabrication Oversight/Leadership (20-40% of time depending on facility) Project Delivery Ensure that production is maintained in accordance with the following: time schedules, drawing specifications and quality standards, employee safety and production goals, and also assist in maintaining a goal-oriented, safe, and quality-conscious working environment.
Direct supervision and monitoring of lead/ employee job performance to mechanical drawings and documented procedures.
Look ahead on scheduling with input from Manufacturing Manager to best direct workforce priority jobs.
Coordinate staffing with team leads and Manufacturing Manager for best utilization of employee resources.
Discuss/review project performance with team leads and employees.
Provide training and direction to team leads, welders and fabricators; coach and make effective suggestions and recommendations to improve employee performance and develop career paths.
Provide leadership to leads and employees on Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Ensure employees are fully trained in all aspects of their jobs and provide training where it is required to ensure safety, quality, and production requirements are understood and that Leads and new Welder/Fabricators demonstrate proficiency.
Pipe Fit Up Layout/fit-up pipe materials, flanges, brackets, etc.
according to engineered drawings and project requirements Clean, prepare and weld pipes of various sizes and dimensions with fittings, flanges, and weld joints according to standardized processes and quality requirements.
Torch, cut holes, clean for a thread let weld.
Calculate material measurements to verify specifications.
Perform MIG and TIG, welding per specifications.
Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications.
Trach and check inventory - ensure parts and material are readily available for pipe jobs.
Verify or confirm pipe welds using MTR’s (Material Test Result(s) and Heat #’s Weld up pressure vessels per code.
Organize and maintain weld-maps and documentation paperwork.
Inspect/audit weld tests make sure welding is qualified to PQR’s and meeting all welding standards.
Technical Positions, aligns, fits, and welds together material pieces to AWS specifications.
Weld using MIG welder and pulse process; weld components in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions both vertical and horizontal plane.
Tack up structures to meet tolerances and specifications.
Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches, hammers, chips, and grinds work piece, cut, bend, and straighten metal.
Operations/Layout Review, analyze and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout.
Understands layout and plans sequence of operations to maximize efficiency of production in terms of time, quality, quantity, resources, and overall costs.
Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
Understand various weld form symbols on blueprints and drawings.
Designs and constructs templates and fixtures Facilitate the engagement of Manufacturing Manager, Engineering, PM’s, to ensure smooth production flow.
Provide feedback to Leads/Employees on the Production and Fabrication process.
Maintain necessary flexibility within assigned operation, ensuring effective reaction to customer requirements that frequently disrupt established production schedules.
Conduct departmental audits of the Welding/Fabrication production process to ensure compliance with safety, quality and production standards and policies.
Accounts for efficiency and productivity levels to meet corporate objectives.
Reports to Manufacturing Manager on general progress of daily production and areas of concern.
Proactively use Lean Tools to improve operating efficiency, reduce costs and improve quality and safety results.
Other Essential Duties Maintains regular and consistent job attendance, comes to work on time.

Must always maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.
Supervisory responsibility Ability to work well with others across all levels of the company.
Experience and Skills: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High School Diploma or equivalent plus three to five years welding experience and knowledge of welding methods as required by ASME.
Must have knowledge of production techniques in metal fabrication.
6 months experience welding pressure vessels.
One-year supervisory experience with skills in coaching and applying supervisory techniques.
Ability to train, instruct and motivate employees.
Skilled in estimating time and material requirements of assigned work projects.
Skilled in both verbal and written communication Able to discern correct welding applications.
Must be proficient in MIG welding.
Essential “rigging” knowledge is necessary.
Good math skills necessary in transferring print information to the fabrication process Ability to read and interpret shop/engineering drawings.
Ability to read and follow WPS’s/PQR’s.
Must be able to work as and with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, adjust easily to changes in midstream, focus attention on details and follow work rules.
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
Frequently stand for prolonged periods, lifting/moving of up to 100 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, grasping, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, and climbing ladders Must be able to climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways.
A record of dependability and cooperation in previous work environments Ability to obtain and maintain current AWS (American Welding Society) certifications as required.
