Description:
Under the direction of the Head of Museum Education and Public Programs, develops and implements educational school, outreach, and community programs for target audiences and performs general tasks for the Museum Education department.
Specific tasks will vary depending on assignment.
This position is funded through Professional Outreach Programs in the Schools (POPS).
Part-time, some weekends, evenings, and travel required.
15 to 27 hours per week.
Duties:
Develop and implement educational programs
Provide support for exhibition development, installation, and maintenance
Present outreach programs in classrooms throughout Utah
Facilitate museum tours
Coordinate statewide partnerships and local volunteer programs
Write curriculum for programs and resources integrated with K-12 USOE Core Standards
Track program attendance and prepare reports
Participate in professional development opportunities to promote SMA education programs and stay current with best practice
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
BA in Art Education, Art History, Humanities, or related education degree preferred.
Previous museum experience, with demonstrated proficiency in informal teaching environments or guiding gallery tours, is desirable.
Curriculum development and classroom management a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Attention to detail and editing.
Advanced customer service skills and the ability to interact with Museum patrons, volunteers and the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
Familiar with object-centered learning.
Sound understanding of current museum education theory.
Curriculum writing and classroom management experience.
Working understanding of Utah State Core Standards.
Highly organized and able to coordinate multiple schedules and projects.
Advanced understanding of technology, including social media platforms.
Experience with Microsoft Office is required, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Illustrator.
Some travel is required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Utah driver's license, and successfully pass a background check.
Physical Demands:
This job requires a significant amount of time in a stationary position in front of a computer screen and using a keyboard for data entry.
The ability to move (around the Museum or in the classroom) for extended periods of time is also required, as well as the ability to assist with moving objects and materials up to 30lbs.
